Who
we are
Srijanalaya is where creativity dwells. सृजना गर्ने आलय ।
We make places filled with stories and creative resources where children and young people can express themselves. At the heart of everything we do is the act of intentionally making joy with the community. Established in December 2013, Srijanalaya is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization, that creates safer and more inclusive learning spaces through the arts - visual, performing, and language. Our work is about actualizing spaces - tangible and intangible - for children and adults to feel safe to take risks in expressing themselves through all mediums of art

This work has emerged from a growing community of storytellers, artists, and educators working towards encouraging creative learning modes through active and critical listening and narrative skills. We believe that art fosters creativity and counters the silencing of multiple narratives in Nepal’s education system and societies at large. Here at Srijanalaya, art is a way of being, a methodology, a way of experiencing, expressing, and understanding ourselves and others.
HISTORY
From the beginning, Srijanalaya has taken root in the community and grown out from and around the community. The children at Yatkha Baha where we started in 2011, dreamed and helped build the single room space where art, conversations, music, dance, and creation took place. In 2013, further collaborations with artists and educators led to a dynamic arts and education program for the Climate+Change exhibition (organized by ICIMOD, photo.circle, and others) that set an important example on how to provide innovative learning experiences for young people and the general public.
It was at this stage that we formally registered in 2013 and in the past ten years, we have moved, we have shape-shifted, we have grown limbs and strengthened our home that is Srijanalaya. And even though we still operate out of a single room, we are much bigger than what the four walls can hold. By looking back at our decade-long work, we look ahead to the next decade.

MEET THE TEAM
Below is a group of people who are part of the core team of Srijanalaya. At the same time, we have been fortunate to be a part of a larger network of artists and educators across the seven provinces of Nepal whom you will encounter throughout the rest of the website, especially in the images of their works and resources they have created.
