Visual Prompts: Gender, patriarchy, power, sexuality and identity (for grade 8 and above)

Srijanalaya worked with photo.circle to design and implement the Arts and Education Program for PhotoKTM. In 2018, these visual prompts from PhotoKTM were extremely effective in reflecting on issues around gender, patriarchy, power, sexuality, and identity. These are also great for visual literacy activities and to prompt students' imaginations for storytelling activities. This program was designed with the support of Niranjan Kunwar and Sharareh Bajracharya to follow visual literacy guidelines. We recommend that people first take a look at the images and describe it. What do you see? What do you imagine is happening? Then read the text and think through the issues that the students bring up in relation to gender and sexuality. These are usually difficult to discuss and these images help broach these topics that are usually not discussed in our classrooms and communities.
