Learning through Clay: Lessons by Public School Teachers from Nagarjun Municipality, Nursery to Grade 8
Art-in-School is a professional training program for teachers of grades 1 to 6 and school leaders that focuses on integrating the visual arts such as drawing, collage, clay work, construction, weaving, printmaking, and creative movement into core subjects (Hamro Serophero, Math, English, Nepali, Science, etc) to make learning more engaging and meaningful. The program builds a culture of reflective, arts-based pedagogies that values every child’s expression and development.
As part of the Art-in-School program, 16 dedicated teachers from four schools in Nagarjun Municipality explored clay as a teaching medium to enhance classroom learning for over 360 students. The teachers are from Amar Jyoti Secondary School, Shree Ichangu Narayan Basic School, Shree Sita Bal Bikash Secondary School, and Yuwa Sahabhagita Secondary School. We are thrilled to share this inspiring journey of creativity and learning as doable, effective hands-on techniques that teachers can use in their classrooms.
Below are links to the videos of 15 of the teachers' lessons, the lesson plans they wrote, and links to the government textbook links that are related to each lesson.
The videos and photos are made by the Art-in-School Team, including the voiceovers.
